Accepting New Clients
Devon Beatson, PhD Student
She/Her/Hers
Devon Beatson is a fourth-year doctoral student in the Counseling Psychology program at Brigham Young University. Devon is warm, inviting, and collaborative, viewing therapy as an equal partnership. She blends evidence based therapy with genuine humor and flexibility, aiming to empower clients to feel confident in their healing, self-discovery, and personal decision-making.
Born and raised in the Far North of Aotearoa New Zealand, Devon brings a rich cultural foundation and an indigenous lens to her clinical practice (Ko Ngāpuhi raua ko Te Rarawa ōna Iwi). Raised within Māori language schooling and deeply embedded in Te Ao Māori and her Pasifika heritage, she has cultivated a deep understanding of minority experiences, diaspora living, language revitalization, and the generational effects of colonization. Her background gives her a deep appreciation for the integration of indigenous values and cultural involvement within modern psychological healing.
Devon’s diverse professional background includes working within Māori immersion schools to support children facing complex challenges in the education system, as well as providing care to an international student body from around the globe at the BYU–Hawaii Counseling Center. She earned her undergraduate degree in Psychology from BYU–Hawaii, where she also spent time performing in the Aotearoa village at the Polynesian Cultural Center, proudly sharing her heritage with visitors from all over the world.
